Lenny Kravitz Recalls Going to High School with Nicolas Cage in Los Angeles

Lenny Kravitzis recalling his all-star high school experience.

Nicolas Cage,Gina Gershonand guitarist Saul Hudson a.k.a.Slashwere among the musician’s Beverly Hills High School classmates in the late 1970s, he explained in a new interview withEsquire.

Asked whether he keeps in touch with the “creative group of kids” he grew up with at the Los Angeles school, Kravitz, 59, said, “I do.”

“I just saw Slash, who I went to high school with,” he said. “And Gina Gershon.”

As for Cage — who the “Fly Away” singer admitted he doesn’t see as often — a specific memory came to mind.

“His name was Nic Coppola at that time,” recalled Kravitz. “And I remember doing a play with him.”

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’sOklahoma!was that school play, he added. “I was in the orchestra and Nic was on stage… He was singing and dancing and acting and I was playing drums. It was a good time.”

Not long after graduating, Cage earned one of his first onscreen credits with a small part inFast Times at Ridgemont High. The eventual Oscar winner then changed his name to distance himself from his uncle,Godfatherfilmmaker Francis Ford Coppola.

Gershon, who went on to star inShowgirls,Boundand more hit films, has remained close with Kravitz throughout the years. The actress appeared as part of a love triangle in the music video for his 2000 song “Again.”

Slash, lead guitarist ofGuns N' Roses, has performed with Kravitz onstage. The two collaborated on 1991 single “Always on the Run,” which then appeared on Kravitz’s albumMama Said.

The actor-musician will follow up his 2018 albumRaise VibrationwithBlue Electric Light, which is set for a March 15, 2024 release. A new song released in October, “TK421,” appears to be the first track released from the upcoming album.

The song’s NSFWmusic video, in which Kravitz dances and washes himself while fully naked, made waves upon its release.

Of baring it all in the video, Kravitz toldEsquirehis approach was “just going for it.”

“I feel good mentally, spiritually, physically. And anyway, when you see the video, you’ll understand.”
