( HBO hasrenewed the showfor a third season ; a 4th is not yet prescribed . ) The showrunner also said “ earlyish 2025 ” is the time frame for a product start appointment ; season three is still being written . “ How many episodes ? ” is the obvious next question ; Condal ’s response : “ I have n’t had discussions with HBO about it , I would just anticipate the cadence of the show , from spectacular storytelling perspective , will continue to be the same from season two on . ”
WhileHouse of the Dragonhas madesome changes from its source material — Martin’sFire & BloodTargaryen history — it wo n’t have the problem thatGame of Throneshad , in which the show ’s storyline advance beyond Martin ’s own narrative . And with a clear end in sight — something Condalalready has in psyche — it feels likeHouse of the Dragonis poised to find a more cheering conclusion than its predecessor did .

Still , that means seasons three and four had better be action - packed to handle all the mussy Targaryen business to come . If “ earlyish 2025 ” is when production is start , it ’s likelyHouse of the Dragonwon’t issue to HBO and Max until 2026 at the early .
