We ’ve known for awhile that Black Lightning would keep Jefferson Pierce’ssuperpowered familyfrom the comics , but just weeks beforethe show strike the air , we ’ve gravel our first look at one of his daughters already suited up to come in his footfall : Anissa Pierce , a.k.a . DC sub Thunder .
In the cartoon strip , Anissa ( play by Nafessa Williams on the show ) does n’t inherit as much of the electricity - found powers of her begetter — that go to her young babe , Jennifer ( play by China Anne McClain ) , who eventually takes on the cape of Lightning . Instead , Anissa gain the ability to manipulate her own denseness , letting her become invulnerable or generate shockwaves with a stomp of her metrical foot . So of course , she take her own supersuit to match her newfound ability :
Although not a 100 percentage adaptation ofAnissa ’s suit of clothes from the comics , there are a few conception hallmarks that transport over , like the thymine - design on her belt and the use of icteric over the cause ( which is now dark blue , instead of black ) . The sparkly lightning pieces on the chest and belt look a small out of place compare to the rest of the cause , but it otherwise stands up with Black Lightning ’s own excogitation as something a little more panoplied and textured than the CW ’s common movement of all - faux - leather looks for its submarine sandwich .

If Anissa ’s already got her own suit , how long until Jennifer gets her own too ? This young featurette the CW released does n’t give us any clues , but it does give us a great look at her character ’s personality , especially as to how she relates to her older sister :

We ’ll have to wait and see what ’s in store for both Thunder and the future Lightning — Black Lightning get January 16 .
