write a fantasy epos is hard . compose a fantasy heroic poem while also competing with a television show that adapts said epic , and will end before you ? Apparently that ’s right smart harder .
At least , that ’s the impression I get from an interview George RR Martin recently give to theGuardian . In it , he talk about the pressure of creating while anadaptationof his work is ongoing .
“ There were a couple of year where , if I could have finished the Holy Writ , I could have stayed forwards of the show for another couple of years , and the accent was enormous , “ he explain . “ I do n’t think it was very good for me , because the very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down . Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good Clarence Day — and a good 24-hour interval for me is three or four pages — I ’d feel fearsome because I ’d be thinking : ‘ My God , I have to finish the book . I ’ve only written four pages when I should have write 40 . ’ But having the show finish is relinquish , because I ’m at my own gait now . I have near twenty-four hours and I have bad Clarence Shepard Day Jr. and the strain is far less , although it ’s still there … I ’m sure that when I finish A Dream of Spring you ’ll have to tether me to the Earth . ”

He then went on to reiterate that themixed receptionto theshow ’s finalewon’t sham his own take on the material , and he clearly does n’t seem concerned in discussing the show all that much at all . Which create sense , as he still has ledger to write , shows to create , and prequel material to oversee .
But , like , did he enjoy the finale himself , though ? When asked about whether he ’d observe it , he reply , “ We should n’t let the cat out of the bag about that . ” Fair enough .
