Polarized light is a simple affair . Take light that ’s total in , and permeate it , reflect it , or scatter it so that every wave of illumination is vibrating in the same plane . It ’s all “ waving ” up and down , or side to side . If light is waving one direction – vertically – and over it is position a polarization filter that filters the brightness level horizontally , the light is entirely blocked . Twist the filter around so it filtrate luminance vertically as well , and all the light gets through .
But brightness level does n’t have to be polarized in all the same direction . Some material , among them karo syrup and sure variety of tape recording , can polarize different coloration of light to dissimilar angles . Red light waves might all hover vertically , while blue light vibrates slightly to the side , and purplish light vibrates horizontally . Now place a filter over this new set of polarized colors . As you turn the filter , it will block out sealed colour , and let other colors through .
In this video , people have taped over different section of a motion picture ( set on chalk ) of a hot air balloon . The tape is put up at many dissimilar angles , so each section of magnetic tape polarizes colors to different angle . As the filter is twisted , it filters out different colours , and lets through other colors , so different sections of the balloon seem to randomly change coloring material .
