I ’m start to think that Chuck is actually tolerate from the syndrome that some people think afflicted Moonlighting or Lois and Clark : the two spark advance get together , and the storytelling goes a number sproingy . Spoilers forward …
This was the second installment in a row where I just could not institute myself to care at all about Chuck and Sarah ’s romantic problems — and once again , everything in the installment was design to land us back to them . Everytime the episode begin to get interesting , the nerveless parts would be derailed by the demand to bring the focus back to Chuck / Sarah drama . This installment had three great plot line : the Awesome / Ellie “ babymoon , ” Morgan ’s dithering over dating Alex , and Generalissimo Goya ’s coup d’etat — and all three storylines were haul , boot and screaming , into tying in with the fact that Chuck and Sarah allegedly ca n’t communicate .
I do n’t think it ’s the suit that Chuck and Sarah ca n’t pass , in reality — give how much communicating we ’ve learn them do over the past three and a one-half year , I would n’t have peg communication as one of their large job . Nor do I think the trouble is that Chuck and Sarah should n’t have gotten together — the “ will they / won’t they ” thing was bring forth quondam , frankly .
I think the job is that you ca n’t supersede “ will they / won’t they ” with “ how fast will they ? ” It ’s just not compelling . We no longer doubt that Chuck and Sarah will stay together , but we ’re supposed to wonder how soon they ’ll move in together , how quickly she ’ll unpack her dish , how fast they ’ll get married , and when they ’ll possibly have kids . The exact timetable of each step in Chuck and Sarah ’s kinship is not something that I ’m filled with tautness about .
It ’s weird , because there are so many other things the show could explore , now that Chuck and Sarah have gotten together — and the show hinted at some of them in the episode with Fred Willard and Swoosie Kurtz play a retentive - full term matrimonial undercover agent couple . Going on mission together as a married distich is bind to bring in up all sorts of unearthly fight of pastime and possible challenges — but the show does n’t seem interested in explore that district , instead delving into every possible milepost a relationship could have , and the speed ( or lack thence ) with which Chuck and Sarah might conquer that particular milestone .
So last night ’s episode , “ Chuck Vs . The Coup D’Etat , ” made a pretty potent argument that the Chuck / Sarah timetable issue was played out , resorting to the gray-headed gimmick of have a self - help Scripture author ( who randomly is doing a Brobdingnagian book display and a signing at the Buy - More ) , with a book on improving communicating that seems to consist entirely of smooth quizzes . ( I had the feeling that the people who wrote this episode had n’t actually read any self - help books , which are indeed horrid but nothing like the elbow room this episode portray them . )
Meanwhile , back in the fun part of the sequence , Generalissimo Goya invites Awesome and Ellie to Costa Gravas , to thank Awesome for redeem the Generalissimo ’s life . This is the double-dyed opportunity for a “ babymoon , ” Ellie ’s word for a sexy - fun vacation where the Awesomes do n’t talk about baby poppycock for a while . And it includes a giant marble statue of Awesome , which bring forth Ellie “ caliente ” — until it ’s behead . Because the Generalissimo ’s aphrodisiacal wife decides to set up a putsch d’etat , lead to the good line of the night : “ I can not believe there was a coup on my babymoon . ”
Oh , and Chuck kinda - sorta come uninfected to Ellie , who witnessed his undercover agent - related derring - do and at least appreciated how difficult it is for him to give up on detection . No , Chuck did n’t hold he ’s still a undercover agent , but at least he opened up about his search for mom . And Ellie deport a much - need reminder that their mom may turn out to be just as unsound a someone as they in the beginning opine , once they discover the whole true statement .
I ca n’t be alone in wish well this instalment had had 200 percent more Casey . Casey had so much awesome material in this episode that was just even affect on . I would jubilantly have watched a whole instalment of the former Angel Of Death sharing an apartment with the Generalissimo he ’d spent so much time adjudicate to kill back in the solar day . ( Including living in the walls . ) The mixture of deference , friendly relationship and loathing between the two former foeman was just break with funniness gold . And then there ’s Casey ’s homicidal protectiveness , when face with the prospect of Morgan see his daughter — comedy freaking gold . With a bleary blanket ! At least the latter plot line seems like it ’s going to have heavily in the weeks to come . Now I desire to see Morgan and Alex go on a double particular date with Big Mike and Morgan ’s mom .
speak of which , I have to say that while the return of Big Mike is super welcome — specially last week ’s disco stick incident , which ruled — something about this in vogue sequence scratch me the wrong way . possibly it ’s just the fact that Big Mike should be in charge , and it ’s unearthly to see him being at the same time deferent to Morgan while also giving erotic love advice . But I think it was also the fact that Big Mike got demote to being the guy who tells you that you ’ll hear soulfulness music when you kiss the mortal you ’re think of to be with — it just matt-up , I do n’t live … bum . But I ’m betting Morgan does n’t last another five instalment as coach , and we ’ll see Big Mike back behind the bighearted desk , where he belongs . Do n’t ever count out Big Mike !
